What is collagen?
Collagen is a protein found naturally throughout the body. Especially in skin, tendons, cartilage and bones. In fact, it makes up a third of all the body’s proteins.
The word comes from the Greek kólla, which means glue. The body produces collagen itself, but already from the age of 25, the body’s own production of collagen begins to decrease by 1-2% per year. The visible result of this can be seen on the skin, which becomes less elastic and wrinkles begin to form.
What do studies say about the effect?
In step with the increased popularity of collagen as a supplement, several studies have been done with collagen supplements. In general, the studies point in the direction that collagen can have a beneficial effect on wrinkle depth, elasticity and glow.
Studies have shown that it is possible to absorb collagen through the digestive system. Either in the form of food or subsidies. But collagen supplements are not a homing missile that goes straight into the skin. Exactly how the body uses the extra collagen is very difficult to document. Therefore, further research is still needed to determine exactly how collagen supplements work.
In a clinical study with the collagen petits from Kollagen+, the participants already showed significant improvement in skin elasticity, wrinkle depth, glow and firmness after 6-8 weeks, but depending on your age, diet and other lifestyle it may take longer. The study, published in the recognized scientific journal Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, took place over 12 weeks.

So when can you see results with collagen powder?
Most people therefore start to see results after 6-12 weeks, but this is very different from person to person, and depends, among other things, on your age and your body. Therefore, we recommend that you use collagen powder every day for 2-3 months before judging the effect.
Remember that the body needs collagen continuously if you want to maintain the effect. If you stop taking collagen, the effect will diminish over time.
